Photo Hunters: Narrow

I am not sure how whether it is happening all over the US but over here in the West Coast, I have noticed that houses are getting closer and closer to each other. I took this photo in a new housing community near my place. Look at the narrow gap between the 2 houses. The interesting fact is that these houses not cheap houses. They cost well over 1/2 million. I would imagine if I were to pay this much for a house, I would love to have a little privacy. Don’t you agree? :)

Yes.. I agree.. It is happening here in the Midwest too! I am so scared that one day, I will sit on my toilet and be able to shake hands through the window with my neighbor!!! EEK!

Yep, it’s true, houses have been smushed together more and more together with just a narrow piece of grass that they call lawns. You basically don’t need a lawnmower anymore to cut the grass, just a pair of scissors…. bwahahahaha… great post for the hunt!
I hate that about all the new housing developments. It’s happening out here in Colorado too. I want a yard dang it! LOL!
Yes indeed, they are narrowing the gap as land becomes more and more expensive. Good take on the theme.
Economics. Real estate is soaring high. I agree with you on the privacy thing. But see, in my country, most houses are close with each other even in middle class subdivisions.
This is surely narrow. I wonder whether there still exists the word “privacy” in the minds of developers nowadays. Anyway, great take

I’ve noticed this too! I even heard of some people buying the piece of land next to their homes so that it DOESN’T get developed.

Privacy!? In tiny Singapore, it seems impossible! A condominium is being built right behind my back yard. I just discovered, the residents of that condo and I cannot open our windows without looking into one anothers’ bedrooms and living rooms! We are just 2m apart.
I suppose we are more used, here in England, to houses being close together. I can imagine increased land prices is a reason for this happening in the USA. Great shot, an excellent take on the theme. Happy weekend!
Ya, it’s like that here too. Guess they want to conserve on land area…or get the most out of their investments and build MORE homes into the area.

But in Penang, any theres would have easily cost half a million and it’s even closer! LOL! I don’t like it either.
Not just where you are, BM, also here in the Philippines. At least with some, there are fences to separate the houses. Where we live, we can sometimes hear our neighbors’ voices even if there is a tall fence between us. And at times, smell their food being cooked. Ugh!

That is way too narrow a space to have between two houses! If I paid that amount of money for a house I’d want it way out in the middle of nowhere, not where I could reach out my window and shake my neighbors’ hand. Great take on theme!
Yes, I like land around my house, not just an ally way. Guess that why I live in New Hampshire!
That’s happening where I live too, triangle area of NC. The older subdivisions like mine have nice lots and some of the newer ones do too but there are quite a few new subdivisions with expensive homes put right next to each other like that. I don’t understand it at all. Especially in an area where you have the other choice. Good take on the theme.
Sure makes me appreciate where I live… though there are homes that close together just a few miles away. You’d definitely want to like your neighbors! lol Great photo for the theme!
You’re so right. I’ve noticed this too! You could reach out and touch the hand of your neighbour who’s reaching his hand out! A bit TOO close for my comfort. Great idea for narrow!
And I thought this wouldn’t exist in the States because it is typical European. But here it is justified because there is not a lot of room. I hate houses who are so close together. I am rather lucky in our area the gap between to houses has to be at least 6 m.
The term for such closeness of homes is “zero lot lines” from what I understand. Fortunately here in Tallahassee, there’s not much of that since there’s plenty of space. However in other, larger Florida cities, you’ll see a lot of zero lot line housing where property is at a premium. If they could figure out how to build houses on top of houses they’d would…waittasec!….those are called “condos.”

NARROW FEED THE ROAD
We here in Idaho are pretty spread out. Not many homes and I can only thinking of one that you could jump from roof to roof except me because I’m out of shape.
I seen house like that in the bay area.

That is so appropriate for Narrow. We have noticed the same thing in many of the subdivisions in our area. We drive in and even the streets are narrow. We shudder and can’t wait to get back to open spaces. We see this whenever we visit friends. They just moved into their home last January. After being there 3 weeks, the house 2 doors down (still under construction) blew up and the fire took out the houses on each side of the blown up one, and the sides of the two on each side of those. Our friends had to move out of their house for 3 months while their place was fixed up. Too narrow for me.

Tell you what. Just to make you feel abit better, here in Singapore the apartments are getting smaller and narrower and taller and the blocks are soo closed together…

I’m always torn with these houses: I could not live like that. But they do preserve more land than the zoning rules of an acre or more. The houses are pretty, though!
