Weekend Snapshot: Yurts

Summer is just around the corner and that means it’s camping time! This weekend, we went to a nearby park to check out the camping ground. Look what we found…… Yurts!

I have never heard of yurts until I started camping. According to wiki, “a yurt is a portable, felt-covered, wood lattice-framed dwelling structure used by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia” These yurts can be found in many of the state parks but this particular park has just added them recently. They can be rented for USD40 a night. Most of them has a bunk bed in them.

Close up of the yurts:

Don’t you think they look very cute? We’re planning to try them out this summer. It will definitely different from tent camping.

That look very cute. I’ve never heard of them. I used to do a lot of camping but always in a tent.

if we had one in my country, I’ll do camping more…just can’t stand the fly/mosquito if I stayed in a regularl tent…:(

Yes. It looks functional. As long as they are safe from the bears…I think it’s a good idea to stay in those.

Summer? I thought Spring just arrived. But it’s always not too early to plan for summer vacations, ya ?

They get your back off the hard ground, and that is a beautiful thing. Thanks for this lesson on camping!

these are interesting I want to camp so much—- but the hard ground scares me off so these sound fun-like a great solution for me

I have never heard about Yurts and now I’m glad I did. Those sure look nice, like a different kind of wigwam (though I haven’t seen one yet) :)

    Have a great week!

If you give this a try, be sure to blog about your experience! The yurt looks quite self-contained, and sturdier than the usual tent!
