Hunting for treasures

Published by under Rambling,Useful Links,V

As part of my ongoing quest of saving money, I am always on a lookout for good deals. Sometimes when I am bored, I will check out craigslist. I am always amazed by the assortment of things that people sell. I see computers, beds, exam tables, boats and many more. I think the phrase “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure” is so true. All those baby things that we outgrew will probably be just the right thing for another family. After getting rid of those bulky baby furniture, maybe I will be able to pick up a couple of furniture for that newfound space.

I want more bling-bling

Published by under Uncategorized

When we got married, we did not have much money. So, our Wedding Jewelry was not as fancy as I would have wanted. Over the years, I wasn’t bothered by it but now that I am getting older, I find that I am more interested in fancier jewelry. Maybe it is mid-life crisis!!! Whatever the reason, I think now that Valentines’ day is coming up, I will be dropping lots of hints and lots of sales ad in front of DH. Maybe he will get the hint and buy a fancy diamond ring to replace my current one.

Getting rid of baby stuff

Published by under Rambling,Useful Links,V

Now that I am not seeing any babies in my future anymore, it is time to get rid of all the baby toys, clothes and books that are taking up space in the guest room. So last weekend, I spend some time cleaning up all the baby stuff and divided them into different piles. Some will go to the consignment stores while others will be given to friends. As I was going through all the books, I can’t believe how many self-help baby books I bought. There are books on how to increase breast milk production, how to make your baby a good sleeper and even how to cook baby food. Seriously I don’t think any of those books ever worked for me. I guess it is a lesson learned that just because a book is popular means that it will be useful to everyone.

My little klutz

Published by under Rambling,Useful Links,V

Lil’ C is a klutz. Ever since she was little, she is always falling down or knocking into something. Her physical condition is a major contribution to this clumsiness but her love for daydreaming is also a contributing factor. She is forever thinking about something in her pretty little head. Maybe it is because she read too many books. Lately she loves mystery books and so she is always thinking about the clues and the solution for those mysteries. Everytime she goes out, I feel like putting on extra safety clothing on her just in case she falls and hurts herself. Hopefully she will outgrow her clumsiness one day.

Reliving the teenage years

Published by under Uncategorized

With Chinese New Year coming up, there are lots of oranges and peanuts for sale at the Asian grocery store. These 2 products are a staple during these festivals because people love to munch on them while visiting family and friends. That includes me! Unfortunately my body always gets too heaty after snacking especially since I always forget to drink enough water. That is why I always bring acne products whenever I go back for the celebration. My face will usually be the first casualty of this heatiness with the appearance of acne which I guess does not remain just a teenage memory. This year, I need to remind myself to drink more water to avoid unwanted hills on my face.

A little disastrous talk

Published by under Rambling,Useful Links,V

My girl is 6 years old and recently she has started to be aware of all the things going on around the world. Usually we try not to turn on the news channel when she is around because there is always a lot of bad news happening. I am not quite ready to explain to her about all the disasters in the world. The other day I accidentally forgot to turn off the TV and she happen to watch a Maritime Lawyer talked about a sea disaster and she got really upset. She did not understand why bad things happen, so we had a little talk. She’s ok with it now but I think I will try to minimize her exposure to certain things till she is slightly older.

Planning for Chinese New Year

Published by under Rambling,Useful Links,V

Chinese New Year is just 2 weeks away. So this weekend, I met up with a friend to plan our baking schedule together. We are going to bake all our Chinese New Year cookies together. Baking together is definitely better than baking alone. That way we can chitchat while we bake. Both of us had a list of cookies that we wanted to bake and it was a long list. While dwindling down the list, we had a big laughing moment when my friend misread one of my recipes for honey cigar cookies as honey cigars. She thought that I was talking about real cigars but I was actually talking about long cookies shaped like a cigar. In the end, we managed to narrow the list down to only 6 items. Hopefully we will get it all baked in time for the festival.

Age is creeping up

Published by under Rambling,Useful Links,V

Another new year also means that I am getting a year older. As much as I want to deny it, the age is creeping up and that means the dreaded M word is getting nearer. Apparently some of my friends are already starting to go through menopause and that is scary to me. Some of them are ok with it but others are having a hard time with it. My friend J who is doing well said that she has been taking flaxseed and apparently it helps to reduce the symptoms. According to her, the list of benefits of flax seed is pretty long, so I should check it out. Maybe if I start taking them now, by the time the dreaded m comes around, I will be ok.

Time for weight check

Published by under Rambling,Useful Links,V

Speaking of diet pills for women, it still amazes me at the number of advertisements on television that targets this weight loss market. I guess it must be a big market out there if everyone is trying to get in the game. With all the holiday feasting behind us and the upcoming summer months, I think everyone is trying to lose weight. Hopefully most people will at least try the exercise option first before deciding on a more drastic option. I have 5 months to get myself in an acceptable weight range, so I need to get myself off my lazy chair and head to the gym next week.

The sun, the sun!

Published by under Rambling,Useful Links,V

The sun is out!!! After more than a week of rain, it is so nice to see the sunshine today. Seriously I have always taken the sunshine for granted until I move to the Pacific Northwest. In reality we do not have that much rain here but we do have a lot of cloudy days. That means that sunny days are rare. Hopefully this will be a sign of good weather to come. Maybe it is time to check out the best diet pills for women because it is definitely time to check my weight if I want to wear my summer clothes.
