A stainless steel look for my kitchen

Filed Under (Around the house, Rambling, V) by BlurMommy on 17-12-2009

For this past month, I have been spending a lot of time in my kitchen doing a lot of baking. After a month of staring at it, I realized that I don’t really like my kitchen backsplash. So I decided to look around for other options. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the stainless steel tiles. I didn’t know that they have so many designs available and I love some of the designs. The stainless steel look will definitely blend in with my stainless steel appliances. I think I might just gather more information about it and hopefully I will be able to change my kitchen backsplash.

Major cleanup necessary!

As I mentioned in the previous post, it will be party galore at our house in the next 2 months. So I decided to get a head start and start cleaning up the house a little at a time. Gosh, I really do not like cleaning especially the bathrooms! I think there are too many bathrooms in this house. Speaking of bathrooms, I wish I could replace the sinks with Toto sinks. I really want pedestal sinks instead of my current sinks. Maybe that could go on my wish list. But for now, it is back to cleaning. Sigh…

Oops!

Eeek.. I accidentally cracked one of my kitchen counter tile! I was trying to chop a whole chicken to little pieces with a cleaver and I guess I used too much strength. Oops! That is why I never like to buy the whole chicken but last week, it was on sale and I just could not help it. I think that is the last time I will do that. Next time I am throwing the whole chicken in to the oven for roasting. Forget about trying to be fancy! Now what am I going to do with my cracked tile?

Just a little facelift

As much as we want to sell our current house and move to another house, we know that it will be impossible due to the lousy housing market. I am sure that if we are really insistent, we will be able to sell our current house but we will not be able to get the price that we want. So I guess we are stuck in our house for a while longer. Maybe we might just do a little minor renovating instead. All we need are some safe safety products , paint, a ladder and I think we are set. I am sure that a fresh coat of paint will give the house a much-needed facelift.

Loft makeover

Besides getting ready for the first week of school, I have also been busy rearranging the loft area of my house. I was trying to set up a study area for Lil’ C so that she will have a place to do her homework. I had to move the old tv stand and a rocking chair so that I would have room to place a study table and a bookshelf. But now it is done and Lil’ C has a permanent place to do her homework. Hopefully she won’t start cluttering the table up with her toys!

Time to get rid of the buzzing sound

Filed Under (Around the house, Rambling, V) by BlurMommy on 02-04-2009

Remember my buzzing television? Well, as of today, it is still buzzing and we have not been able to fix it. It looks like we might just have to get a new one. So I have been doing some research on televisions. It has been a while since we bought our last one and I am just totally confused by the different varieties of televisions available. I am leaning towards getting a plasma television just because I love how slim and sleek they look. If I get one, I will probably have to get a plasma mount and place the television on top of the fireplace. That will definitely a space saver solution for me too.

The buzzing television

Lately my TV has gone a little crazy. Whenever we turned it on, it emits this sharp buzzing sound. Not a fun sound when you are having a sinus infection!! Now I understand why babies cry when the airplane gets off the ground. If their ears hurt from the air pressure as much as mine did from the sound from the TV, then no one should blame them for their crying! Anyway, DH is still trying to figure out the problem. Yesterday he tightened some screws in the TV and for a few hours, the noise was gone. However our joy was short-lived when the noise came back. Sigh! It might be time for a new TV which is totally not in our budget this year. DH still has a few tricks up his sleeve and he is going to try them out this weekend. Hopefully it will be an easy fix otherwise the money that was budgeted for home theater chairs will go towards a new TV instead.

A fruitful day

The little one is sick AGAIN! So we decided to skip school and just hang out at home. It is amazing how much things get done when we are not running around town to different activities. It’s 11 am and I’ve already cleaned house, done a load of laundry, sorted out C’s artwork from school, pay some bills and even cooked chicken soup for lunch! Maybe I will even get around to cleaning up my office and clearing off the piles of paperwork that has been cluttering up my computer desks.  Hey, I might actually get to use my computer desks again instead of the dining table! This is really turning out to be a really fruitful day.

Spring gardening

Filed Under (Around the house, V) by BlurMommy on 27-02-2009

With all the snow and freezing temperature that we have been having this winter, I am so ready for spring and summer to get here. I am even ready to do some gardening for spring. The garden stores have already started selling perennials. I am planning to plant some of them in my flower bed. I wonder if I could plant some plum trees too since my little girl loves plum. Do they even grow well in our wet weather? Hmm, maybe I should find out more information before deciding whether to plant or not.

Snow again?

For the past 2 days, we have been waking up to a blanket of snow. We don’t have as much snow as the East Coast but I think we are having way too much snow days for this area. It has also been super cold which means we have been turning up the heater. Sigh, I guess we will be another expensive electric bill next month. Usually our electric bill triples in the winter. It is always very low in the summer since we don’t use heater and we don’t have air-conditioning. I wonder if it will be cheaper to get a heated blanket instead of turning up the heater to the whole house. I really should check into that.
