Just My Rambling

I have been using this theme for this blog for more than a year already and it’s about time for a makeover! The problem is that I am always hesitant to change theme or upgrade because you’ll never know what will happen when you do that. BUT I am getting tired of this theme, so I am just going to do it hoping that nothing will go wrong. So pardon the dust *cough cough* while I do a little dusting & renovating. : )

Before I started blogging, I had no clue how important a good web host can be. Now that I have been blogging for a while, I realized that the most important part of a good blog is to make sure that you have a good web host. Sure it is important to have a nice fancy template and latest plugins but all those are useless without a stable web host. You will lose a lot of readers if your blog has frequent down time.

My contract with my web host will be ending soon. So far I am happy with my web host. However it does not hurt to look around at other options first before renewing my plan for next year. I like to check out Web Hosting Geeks for their top 10 web hosting review. It lists the features, prices and even reviews for each web host. They even have a list of green web host. Green web hosts use alternative energy, plant trees, recycle waste and purchase RECs to power their datacenters. Maybe this year I will sign up for green hosting to play my little part in saving the environment.

I was totally surprised when I opened my mailbox and found a package waiting for me. Don’t you just love it when that happens? I opened it and guess what I found . . . . .

Frankly I am confused about the whole ranking issue. Currently my RealRank and Alexa are totally going in the opposite direction. My highest Alexa has the lowest RealRank while the lowest Alexa has the highest RR. And don’t even bother talking about PR. That’s even more confusing. Hmm… talk about mindboggling!! I don’t think I’ll ever be able to figure how all those numbers out!

In case you haven’t heard the news, PPP will be rolling out their RealRanks today! That means we don’t have to rely on PR anymore. I am not quite sure exactly how they calculate RealRanks. All I know is that it will include factors like unique visitors, page views, incoming link etc…  Then every one of our blogs will be given a rank. Actually I am a little scared to see my rank. What happens if I am last on the list!! hehe…. I guess I will have to wait & see!

What is going on with the pagerank? Is the update not done yet? I just realized that all my blogs have dropped to PR3 to PR2!!!   I guess it was just a really short-lived happiness while they were still PR3. I wonder how long this update is going to go on. Hopefully the PR won’t drop anymore!!

Today is the first time that I’ve hit the maximum allowed number of post for PPP since I first joined in June.  Wow, I wonder how long I can keep it up. The upgrade in pagerank really does work wonders. It opened a lot of doors. Before the upgrade, I was probably doing one PPP every 3-5 days! What a change! At this rate, I will definitely be able to afford my trip to Malaysia next year! Yay!

I just realized that I did 8 posts including interim posts yesterday. I know it’s not many to probloggers but for me, it’s the most I’ve ever written in one day since I started actively blogging in May. Hopefully that is a good start. I guess I better start thinking of more subjects for interim posts if this trend continues.  

Ever since my blogs got ranked, my available opps at PPP has jumped from around 10 opps to 80 opps today!! Woohoo!!! First time I’ve ever seen so many opps. I really should take advantage of it. My only problem is that I don’t have enough time especially with a toddler around. I have to sneak away from my gal to use the PC. Maybe I should teach her to blog too!! haha…

Finally after many months of waiting, Google finally updated the page rank. I was so surprised to see that all 3 of my blogs managed to get a PR3 especially my food blog which is only 1 month old. I really have no idea how Google calculates the pagerank. This time around, many high ranking bloggers got hit bad by Google. A lot of people mentioned that it is due to the paid post but seriously, I don’t think anyone has a concrete answer. So I guess I better make full use of my PR3 while it last. Who knows what will happen in the next update.
