Baking up a storm for Chinese New Year

Filed Under (Food, Useful Links, V) by BlurMommy on 10-02-2010

My oven has been working overtime again this past week. I have been baking up a storm getting ready for Chinese New Year this weekend. My favorite bake this year is this pork jerky. I ate this when I was in Malaysia last month and was really tempted to bring some back to the States. Fortunately I came to my senses and realized that the pork jerky would have been confiscated at the customs since we are not allowed to bring meat product into the country. So I decided to make my own when I got back.

Bak Kua 2010

They are so good! I haven’t stop eating them since I made them. At this rate, I am going to need to get some Solo Slim or I will have to get a whole new wardrobe!

Kid’s Bento for preschooler

Filed Under (Food, Toddler Stuff) by BlurMommy on 07-05-2008

My little girl doesn’t like to eat. So ever since she started pre-school where she will stay for lunch for 2 days a week, I have been making bentos for her. Somehow it makes her eat more when her food looks “cute”.  Even though it takes a little more time and effort to make in the morning, it makes it all worthwhile when she comes back with an empty lunchbox and say “Mommy I love my lunch”!

Here are some of the bentos that I have been making . . .

Bento #1 - A Starry Day

Bento #2 - Hot Diggity Dog

Bento #3 - All American classic

Bento #4 - Spring Time

Bento #5 - Crispy Pancake Day

Red Bean Paratha

Filed Under (Food) by BlurMommy on 22-07-2007

Look what I found at the Asian grocery store the other day - Red Bean Paratha!! This is the first time I’ve ever come across Red Bean Paratha. It’s even made in Malaysia.

There’s only 2 pieces in each packet. So I bought one packet to try. It turned out to be really good. The red bean was a little sweet but the paratha was vcry crispy.  Lil’ C also tried it and she loved it. Kept asking me for more red bean pancake. I better get some more when I go to the Asian grocery store next time.
