The salmon are back!

This weekend is the Salmon Festival which celebrates the return of the salmon to their birthplace. There is always a big celebration here with 2 days of festivities. We went early this year and caught the parade. Lil’ C love the parade especially the floats. The weather was a little gloomy but it did stay dry throughout the hourlong parade.

Unfortunately after the parade, it started pouring! Our plans of visiting the fair and indulging in all the yummy fair food were kinda crushed. After buying some kettle corn, we headed home drenched! Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow, then we might just drop by the festival again especially the salmon hatchery.

Jardin du Soleil Lavender Farm at Sequim

Every year I look forward to 2 months - April & July. Why? Because the tulips bloom in April and the lavenders bloom in July. Every year I always try to visit the tulip & lavender farms. I never seem to get tired of it. The lavender farms are not as colorful as the tulip farms but they definitely smell a lot better. Imagine a whole field filled with the fragrance of lavender….. Mmmmm ….. :)

This year we were a little early to the lavender farms because I wanted to bring my parents there before they leave. The lavenders were not in full bloom, so we only saw a couple of patches of lavender instead of the entire field. They were still pretty though.

Apparently ladybugs love lavenders too! There were a lot of ladybugs amongst the lavenders that day.

The Museum of Flight, Seattle

When my parents were in town, we visited many local tourist attractions. One of them was the Museum of Flight which is one of the largest air and space museum around.

The museum is pretty big and it has lots of airplanes on display. According to their fact sheet, there is more than 150 historically significant air and spacecraft on display.

Even flight engines are on display too.

Museum Of Flight 4

It is an interesting place but if you are not into aviation, this is not the place to be. My nephew will love this place since he loves all sorts of plane. Lil’ C is not quite into aviation stuff yet so she got a little bored. Then she discovered this little corner for kids.

Museum Of Flight 5

She got to ride in an airplane and loved it. There were also some games in there. It was hard to pull her away from this play area.

Museum Of Flight 6

Would I visit again? Only if I have a visitor who is an aviation buff.

Where to pick berries this summer?

Filed Under (Local Activities) by BlurMommy on 09-07-2008

This post is a little late for those looking to pick strawberries but just in time for blueberry and raspberry picking. Strawberry picking usually starts mid June and by now, the supply is usually gone. We did go strawberry picking a couple of weeks ago but were very disappointed with the quality of the strawberries. They were very small compared to last year. I guess the harsh winter this year was very bad for the berries.

Anyway, moving on to the other berries. Hopefully they weathered the nasty winter better than the strawberries did. Raspberries & blueberries picking started this week. Here are a few farms that are available for u-pick blueberries & raspberries in the Seattle suburban area
