Starting a coin collection

Recently C has started a new hobby. She started a coin collection. I think it caught her interest after our summer travels. She collected so many different foreign coins during the vacation that she wanted to add more to her collection. She has even been reading up on coins. She even discover the very cool challenge coin. So now she wants to come up with a design and make her own special challenge coin. Frankly I think it is a pretty good idea. I guess I should check out the pricing and maybe I may make her wish come true this Christmas.

Travel planning just got a lot easier

I love to travel. If I have lots of money, I would just drop everything and travel the world. However that is just a big dream that hopefully someday will come true. But for now, I will stick to my small travels whenever possible. I remember 20 odd years ago, when I was in college, traveling was a lot of fun but also a lot of work. We had to find a map and literally sit down and use a highlighter to highlight the road that we would take for our road trips. We would also be studying lots of travel review books to find interesting places.

Fast forward a few years and travel planning got a lot easier when everything was online. There were maps, attractions and even reviews online. Needless to say, I had no use for my paper map and guide book anymore. All I had to do to plan road trips was to enter our starting point and ending point and we will get a fully detailed route including interesting places to visit along the way. However I still had to print out the meticulously planned route on paper since computer access was limited on road trips.

Just when I thought nothing could beat online travel planning, it got even better with all our mobile devices. Nowadays I do not even have to print any paper anymore! Every single information can be found on my mobile device which is accessible anytime and anywhere. I even have the Best Hotel Apps on my mobile device so that I can find hotels, check their reviews and even book the hotel minutes before arriving at the hotel. I love the fact that I can book hotels at the last minute because when we are on a road trip, sometimes it is hard to know the exact plan due to unexpected delays or surprise attractions. Now where should I go on my next vacation?

Musical novice

Like I mentioned before, I have absolutely no knowledge of music. So when I was asked to buy a present for a musician friend, I was totally at a loss. I wanted to buy something music-related but did not know how to. Luckily I was able to enlist the help of another musician friend who suggested sony recorder musicians friend or something similar. I still don’t know what it does but I am sure I will be more knowledgable by the time I am done with shopping.

Pursuing the musical dream

I am just not a music person which is quite surprising when I came from a high school filled with future composers and musicians. I think it was just not feasible financially for me then. Learning music was so expensive back then. We didn’t have affordable softwares like melodyne musicians friend or even computers as a matter of fact. Seriously as unbelievable as it sounds, we had no laptops back then. All music machines were big, bulky and expensive. It is definitely more affordable to dabble in music nowadays.

Learning a new musical instrument

Now that C is in third grade and has been playing piano for many years, I would really like for her to pick up another musical instrument just for fun. At the top of her wish list is learning the guitar. I have absolutely no knowledge of anything related to guitar, so I have been checking around for more information. I want to be able to estimate how much it will cost if she starts lessons. I am sure she won’t need the galaxy audio as-1100-4 guitar center yet but she will definitely need a guitar first. So hopefully that won’t be too expensive.

Time to declutter

Summer is over and school has started. That means it is time for me to get over my vacation mode and settle down to work. This year, in order to earn a little spending money, I plan to get rid of some of my precious craft stash that has been accumulating. I have some great ideas for beautiful jewelry and lanyards. Hopefully I will be able to sell them successfully. If I make some sales, then I will be able to earn money and also get back some of my storage space. It’s a win-win situation, I hope.

Practical gift

Buying gifts is a big headache for me. I think it is worse when I have to buy gifts for guys. Nowadays I can’t even buy ties and cufflinks anymore since most people that I know goes to work in jeans and T-shirts. However this year I think I have found the perfect solution. I found some really cool leather wallets and ordered a few of them to give away as gifts. I think most guys would not mind receiving wallets as gifts, right? They are practical and useful. Now I am so glad that I do not have to worry about getting gifts for a while.

On a health kick

Recently many of friends are on a health kick. I think as we grow older, a lot of “aging symptoms” are starting to set in. That is why we are all starting to eat healthier and exercise a lot more than before. A couple of us are going to the gym and taking classes while some are joining marathons and triathlons. One friend was even thinking about taking MMA classes after watching the tim kennedy mma. I think that is a little too intense for me but to each his own. As long as we all try our best to stay healthy, it’s all good.

Vacation countdown!

I can’t believe it’s the last day of July already and we still do not have summer-like weather!!!! I wonder if that’s going to happen in August? Not that it matters since I will be off to the tropical land soon. Yay for vacations! I am so looking for forward to my vacation. I do not have to worry about cooking or cleaning or taking care of the leather sofa repair or worry about my soon-to-be broken washer. All that will have to wait till I get back from my vacation.

Shopping and more shopping!

Speaking of shopping for my upcoming SE Asia trip, one product that I am definitely going to stock up on is perfumes. Perfumes make great gifts especially the mini sized ones. They are small and easy to carry in my limited luggage. I usually carry a few extra just in case I meet any unexpected relatives or friends during the visit. Another great gift is vitamins. They are a lot cheaper here and usually I receive a lot of request for them. So let’s go shopping!! Can you tell that I am excited about my trip?
